Imagine that salad is life—vibrant, fresh, rewarded with so much blessings.
Many people fail to realize that man has been blessed with so much rewards, and instead focus only the negative aspects of existence, such as money problems, crime, and so on. It is like looking at a glass half empty, when it should be viewed as half full.
Now since salad will represent life, let the main component of the salad, the lettuce be you, the person, the human being God created in His own image and likeness. As you are still young, you will be carefully supervised and nourished; you will be fed, given vitamins, and taught the basic knowledge; you are groomed for maturation.
As you are beginning to ripen and getting ready for harvest, the people who’ve raised you begin to get excited, and somewhat sad—excited because they will finally see you go and continue your own path; sad because you’ll be leaving them.
As you are harvested and unleashed in a big bowl of salad called life, you will encounter a lot of ingredients that will add taste and color to your existence.
Tomatoes will make you sour, but they will also help your skin become more radiant.
Onions will make you weep, but they will strengthen your personality.
You’ll be like a chicken—you’ll be boiled and tested to the limit, but you must not waver.
There will be truths that you will find hard to digest, like bacon, but you must know how to discern truth from lies.
At times, you will be weak and easy to break, like taco chips, but you must not be afraid. Things like these happen. Learn from your experiences and become a better individual.
Sometimes life will be sweet, like a Sicilian Chicken Salad. Sometimes it will be harsh and spicy, like the Mexican Catalina Dressing. Then there will be times where you will feel on top of the world, admired by the world, like the Oriental Salad. However you must remain humble. Know your place in the world.
Times will be tough, but the array of elements that will come your way will strengthen and add color to your life.
One day, you will wither and outlive your purpose in life. Before this happens, you should cherish what you have. Be a blessing to others.
And then you will know how happy it is that you had the chance to experience a salad called “life”.
